COS Productions (formerly Cirencester Operatic Society) has been producing quality musical theatre since 1952 within this wonderful Cotswold town.
Two fully staged musicals are produced each year with talented performers and a top class orchestra. Usually one in May and one in October.
The shows are staged in The Barn Theatre, which is also our rehearsal venue. We rehearse on a Monday night with principals being also called on a Thursday. We are known to visit the bar next door after rehearsals!
The Barn Theatre is state of the art having recently been refurbished. We enjoy use of some of the best lights and sound systems in the region and are constantly aiming to improve show by show on what we do. Our Production Teams look to put on classics or more modern works and bring them to life for cast, crew and audiences.
COS are always eager to welcome new members on and off stage. Whether you are an actor, singer, dancer we would welcome you on stage.
We also have a great team who work backstage to make the shows come to life with innovative sets, wonderful hair, make up and costume – or and some of the most important people, the ones who love theatre and come along to be part of everything and make the tea and coffee.
Here is what some of our members say about why they do it:
“Because I have fun and love the challenges it brings”
“I get a thrill from giving the audience a great night out. I love a show where the company clearly have fun but it is the audience reaction that really thrills me”
“I’m unable to comprehend my life without being involved in theatre – from the agony of audition to the exhilaration of applause. Why do I do it? Because I can!”
“The rush of adrenaline as you step on stage for the first time and are ‘transported’ by the thrill of the audiences’ response, well you can never get enough of that. It’s a team effort where everyone Is as important as everyone else on a production night – it is a great equalizer. Lastly and most importantly, being moved around a lot for me, it’s a great way to make friends.”
“It gives me confidence.”
“To be someone else for awhile and to be in a different life”
“For the people and the way they can surprise you.”
“The adrenaline of creating a completely unique live performance each time and the camaraderie of doing it as a team”.
“Making new friends, exploring a new side of myself away from normal ordinary life. Being on an adrenalin high.”
